Shekina Simeon Spencer , affectionately known as "Uncle Son", was born on September 6, 1892 in the Spain community of Brooks County Georgia to Emanuel Spencer Sr. and Amanda Styles. He was the ninth of thirteen children. Shekina moved with her family to Dixie Georgia in 1896 and attended the Simmon Hill School. He joined Simmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church in 1906 under Rev. Wiley F. Tarver. After Shekina finished grammar school, he worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1918 to serve in World War I. Shekina married Lida Mae Leonard on September 23rd 1923 in Dixie , GA. He continued to serve as a deacon, Baptist Training Union chair, and clerk in Simmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church until he died on January 21, 1970 in Dixie, GA.
